First Chair is Still Among the Best Chairs
Andrew Jackson Chair a Favorite in Old Hickory Line
SHELBYVILLE, Ind. - (July 30, 2007) Apparently, what was a favorite of President Andrew Jackson is also a favorite among Old Hickory Furniture Company customers. The company, designers and manufacturers of authentic rustic furniture, lighting, kitchen & bath cabinets and accessories, recently brought back an American Classic, the Andrew Jackson Chair.
Immortalized in books and historic documents, this classic chair is featured in both standard and rocking chair styles. Made of sturdy hickory saplings the chair can be upholstered with fabric or leather or it can come with woven cane or wood splint like the originals versions. Solid lengths of bent hickory saplings form the three-hoop back and gently curved front arm detailing. The elegant lines seem to wrap delicately around its occupant, making it both welcoming and beautiful. The original chair's comfort and attractive styling keep it as popular today as it was when first introduced in 1892.
The chair's early beginnings were in the late 1800s when Billy Richardson started handcrafting hickory chairs and selling them in the town square in Martinsville, Ind. History recounts that he and his father made the original Andrew Jackson Three-Hoop Chair for the president's Tennessee retreat. They went on to later start the Old Hickory Chair Company, now the Old Hickory Furniture Company.
Today, printed leather, traditional cane woven, plain leather or the classic wood splint woven back and seat are all options for the chair.
The Andrew Jackson chair dimensions are 39" H x 27" W x 36" D. The seat is 17" H x 19" W x 19" D. The chair is available for order today in both rocker and standard chair styles.
Old Hickory Furniture items are all made-to-order and available to customers within six weeks. Old Hickory will present this chair, along with all of its latest designs and innovations, at its showroom in Las Vegas at the World Market Center July 30th - August 3rd showroom A-548.
