If asked to define American culture, it can easily be described in three words: liberty, justice, and equality. Yet, many would hesitate when asked what stands as a physical representation of our culture. One of the most well-known examples is our National Parks. The United States has over four hundred public sites dedicated to preserving our natural heritage and resources. Similar to the values of Old Hickory, the National Parks aim to conserve American tradition and embrace our history so that it may be enjoyed by future generations. Today, not many organizations share these goals, so it is hardly surprising that Old Hickory is often recognized as the furniture of the National Parks.
For the past 117 years, Old Hickory has paired with the National Parks to furnish many of their most popular lodges. Some of these lodges include: The Lake McDonald Lodge, Paradise Inn, Grand Canyon North Rim and Phantom Ranch, Yosemite Lodge at the Falls, and the iconic Old Faithful Inn. If you plan to visit any of these places, keep an eye out for our furniture and you may be lucky enough to find some that dates back to the early 1900's. Built in 1904, the Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone stands today as the first great lodge and is the perfect place to see and experience our long-lasting furniture. The video below was taken this past week in the Old Faithful Inn Dining Room and showcases the original Tavern chairs from 1904. Another popular site, the Lake McDonald Lodge, was built in 1914 in Glacier National Park and has featured Old Hickory furniture since the very beginning. Lake McDonald Lodge (and our furniture) was recently published in the Wall Street Journal in an article about decorating in an “Americana style” as described by designer Max Humphrey. Old Hickory and our National Park Lodges is America's favorite partnership and we hope to carry this on for another hundred years.
